About Nathaniel Balk

Nate is an associate in our financial services regulatory practice, advising banks, nonbank financial institutions, and fintech companies on a wide range of federal and state banking law and regulation. Prior to joining Freshfields, Nate was a senior attorney at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in the Legal Division’s Bank Regulation and Policy Group.

During his time at the Federal Reserve, he advised its principals and senior staff on issues involving mergers and acquisitions policy, change in control, resolution planning, and emergency lending under section 13(3) of the Federal Reserve Act. 

He also handled a wide variety of applications and bank regulatory issues under U.S. banking laws, including the Bank Holding Company Act, Change in Bank Control Act, International Banking Act, Home Owners’ Loan Act, Dodd-Frank Act, and Federal Reserve Act.  Prior to attending law school, Nate worked on supervisory, examinations and rulemaking matters as a financial analyst at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
